Aja Naomi King — a name fit for a queen. I was first introduced to her as Michaela Pratt in the award-winning series, How to Get Away with Murder, alongside the iconic Viola Davis. I loved seeing another young Black woman on TV that I could relate to, someone who was smart, ambitious, bold, courageous, preppy, & confident.
She played a character who was never afraid to speak her mind or do what she needed to get ahead and succeed.
Aja played Michaela with such raw talent, emotion, and wit. Whether you loved or hated her, she truly commanded the screen. Sometimes, I may have disliked Michaela more than I loved her (especially in season six), but that only proves how well Aja embodied her role.
Aja continues to inspire through acting, modeling, serving as a spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris, being an advocate, a wonderful mother, and, most of all, being part of the representation that Black women need in Hollywood today.
She was honored with the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Rising Star Award in 2017, showing that her contributions have truly made an impact.
I’m so excited for her new projects because I desperately need to see this star shine again on my screen, ASAP.
I hope that she continues to thrive and receives the success that she most definitely deserves!
