Naya Rivera — The Underrated Street Style Icon

Naya Rivera — The Underrated Street Style Icon

Naya Rivera was not only a phenomenal singer, dancer, actress, & mother, but also a street style icon. She knew how to turn any casual fit into paparazzi-ready glam, whether she was strolling through Hollywood or strutting through LAX. She always looked put together no matter what.

She mainly wore neutral colors such as black, white, tan, & grey, with a pop of color every now and then. I’d like to call her style edgy glam. Naya once described her style as “Jekyll & Hyde,” saying she prioritized comfort during the day and loved looking sexy, fun, but classy at night.

Her main style staples were fabulous fur coats, a designer bag-preferably a Hermes Kelly or a vintage Chanel—a body-con skirt or dress, a denim or leather jacket, designer sunnies such as YSL, and, of course, a sultry stiletto heel. Even though she rarely wore sneakers, when she did, they still had to be designer.

On her more laid-back days, she often wore graphic T-shirts, like her fave Rolling Stones band tee, paired with jeans or leather pants and a designer belt. She also wore athletic sets & oversized sweatshirts, including her designer Chanel sweatsuit. Another go-to look was high-waisted pants with a crop top or a flowy blouse. You can’t forget her oversized, wide-brimmed hat, which added to her glamorous aura.

Naya’s style still inspires me to this day as I try to capture the fierceness of her outfits. The street style of the 2014-2018 era was memorable, & her looks always stood out wherever she went.

It’s been six years since her untimely passing, & we continue to honor the impact she made on so many people. Whether through music, fashion, acting, or philanthropy, her legacy will continue to inspire us for many years to come! May she rest in peace.
